The Lost Art Of Illustration

There is not a lot of utility for detailed illustration. Frankly, it's time-consuming and expensive, so many companies opt for photography in their advertising instead of illustration.

That wasn't always the case.

I'd like to highlight some of my favorite high-fidelity illustrators of yesteryear and today.

Alex Ebel: Known mainly for his sci-fi illustration, I first came to know Alex's work from these incredible Nocona boots ads. I've tried endlessly to pitch similar ideas to my own clients.

Jack Davis: Jack is known for his satirical, comedic poster art. He's a founding artist for Mad magazine, and his art style is cartoonish yet detailed.

Phil Roberts: I met Phil at my first job and got to tour his studio. He mainly works in the surf space. But ironically, as a kid, I had his Detroit Rock City poster on my bedroom wall. He still makes very rad things.

I could bang on endlessly about this, but I'll save more inspiration for a later date.
