I Am Constantly Trolling Designers

Designers are a group of self-serious nerds who think design is as hard as science and as sophisticated as 30-year-old scotch.

So I've taken on the important job of satirizing our profession.

Years back, I tweeted a fake logo grid — the kind designers use to sell work as sophisticated. Any veteran knows it's mostly snake oil.

For context, designers who make logos will often pitch them with these complicated grids on top. They help sell the work as sophisticated, but any veteran knows it's mostly snake oil.

This thread descended into madness. Some designers got the joke and played along. In the replies, they asked for more. I obliged.

Slight flex: Michael Beirut follows me and his agency did the Mastercard logo. I wonder what he thought.

Many designers were completely perplexed. There were countless replies expressing genuine confusion.

A few were even annoyed that I'd joke about carefully considered logo grids. I mean, it's a fuckin' circle. It's hilarious.
