We're nearing our ten-year anniversary on Feb 19th. That's strange to say. The project wasn't meant to grow much, but as it happens, we've sold over two million individual t-shirts and grossed over eight figures in sales.
Despite our marginal success, I wanted to share something light-hearted. I'm going to share with you the funniest insults I received along the way.
At our first Zumiez event, someone told me, "Is this a brand for dads?" This burn had me questioning our entire art direction.
When I relayed this insult to a dear friend, he remarked, "That’s weird because it looks like it’s for little kids." He was not joking and genuinely thought he was helping.
Another friend, in the first year, told me not to pursue the Chomp project because I would make more money if I started a design agency. I said, "Thanks for the encouragement," and he said, "Prove me wrong." Honestly, that one was helpful.
Our first-ever Instagram comment, from someone outside my inner circle, was, "Yo, these tees fuckin suck, lol." Something about adding "lol" at the end was a perfect dismount. This later became our catchphrase.
I’m in a business group with fellow marketers, and one friend, who's known me for 15 years, stated, "I still don’t really know what Chomp is." For what it's worth, neither do I.
Thanks for being a part of Chomp. Whether you found us online, at retail, or at Goodwill. It’s still fun.
We have a lot in store for this year. Two collaborations are coming next month. In the meantime, shop this stuff below!
